Haplogroup O-M175
Haplogroup O(M175) is found among people living in countries such as Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and West Malaysia, Indonesia, East Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, East Timor, Brunei, Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island. Among the countries in East Asia peopled with this Haplogroup are China, Hong Kong, Macao, Mongolia, Taiwan, Japan and among the siblings of the over six decades old rival Koreas. Among the countries in South Asia with people carrying this Haplogroup in significant numbers are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In Central Asia, the Haplogroup has been found in populations living in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan. The Haplogroup has also been traced among the aborigines of Australia, Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands, Fiji and Papua New Guinea as well as inhabitants of New Caledonia which is a special collectivity of France, West Papua and Maluku Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and Wake Island alongside the Polynesians occupying thousands of Islands in the central and southern Pacific Ocean.
This Haplogroup is notably absent among the populations living in Western Siberia, Western Asia, Europe and most of Africa and the Americas. However, the few cases of its presence in these regions seem to be as a result of recent migrations to these places and not in any way connected to the migratory wave exhibited during the Palaeolithic period. Haplogroup O1, which is a subclade of Haplogroup O-M175 has been found albeit in low-to-moderate concentrations among the populations living in the coastal areas of Southeast Africa such as Kenya, Tanzania, Indian Ocean islands such as Zanzibar, Pemba, Comoros and Pate as well as parts of northern Mozambique.
Haplogroup O-M175 sub-branches include O-MSY2.2, O-M268 and O-M122. The Haplogroup O-MSY2.2 is found among populations of Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, southern China and Taiwan. The Haplogroup O-MSY2.2 is present in other regions as well such as mainland Southeast Asia, Oceania, Southwest China, North China, Northwest China, Northeast China, Korea, Japan, North Asia and Central Asia in much lower frequency. The Haplogroup O-M122 is also primarily associated with Han Chinese people and in significant proportions is present among the populations of East Asian region such as Adi, Apatani, Nishi and Naga in Northeast India.
